24 Taiwanese companies to be honored for promoting circular economy

Taipei - The winners of the Fourth Annual Taiwan Circular Economy Award have been announced. In a ceremony to be held on October 27, experts from the Center for Green Economy of the Chung-Hua Institute for Economic Research will honor 24 enterprises for their efforts to recycle and reuse materials.

Ccilu International will win top honors at the Center for Green Economy of the Chung-Hua Institute for Economic Research’s Taiwan Circular Economy Award ceremony on October 27 at the Shangri-La Far Eastern Taipei. The company of 14 employees recycles coffee grounds, sea waste like plastic bottles, semiconductor wafers, and agricultural and fishery waste to manufacture comfortable shoes.

Other Taiwanese firms slated to receive awards include Sunfan Technology Enterprise, which reuses wood to make furniture, charcoal potted plants, and pyroligneous acid cleaning products, and Shuang Ho Hospital’s success in incorporating circular economic and net-zero carbon emissions in their healthcare operations.

“The awards incorporate the management of the circular economy, enterprise circularity, and cross-sectoral cooperation,” the Green Economy Research Center said in a statement.

The awards include seven categories: enterprise, small and medium-sized enterprises, product, innovative technology, ESG, innovative service, and most valuable person.

Judges from industry, government, and academia evaluated the economic and environmental benefits of each contestant from a qualitative and quantitative point of view. Representatives from British Standards Institution, UL Solutions Taiwan, and Cathay Financial Holdings also conducted site visits to verify eligibility.

Other awardees include: Delta Electronics, Cheng Loong, Longchen Paper & Packaging, Tung Ho Steel Enterprise, Taijei Precision, DA.AI Technology, Hwa Seng Bottles Water, PackAgePlus, Picupi International, Arcadyan Technology, Ho Yu Textile, YoungRay, CH Biotech R&D, InSynerger Technology, Gshine Welltech, Nanjitan Carbon, Blue Ocean Vision Enterprise, Asia Cement’s Hualien Manufacturing Plant, ASE, Taiwan Cement Branch Peace.

Topics to be discussed at the ceremony and related events included analyses of corporate environmental external costs, accelerating climate finance and driving the net-zero transition, assessing product circularity, and the effect of the Taskforce on Nature-Related Financial Disclosures on businesses. ce/jd
