Bartholet Maschinenbau AG from Flums in the Swiss canton of St.Gallen has reported in a press release: “Progress is being made on the construction of Varanasi's first urban ropeway.” It states that the first tower was installed recently. In addition, six supports have already been constructed and the foundation for the third tower has also been completed.
India’s first urban ropeway is being brought to life by Bartholet in collaboration with Vishwa Samudra Engineering on behalf of National Highways Logistics Management Ltd. It spans an elevation of 40 meters from the main train station to the Godowalia Chowk tower. Five towers connect an area of around 3.7 kilometers. After completion, which is scheduled to take place in 2025, up to 3,000 passengers are expected to be transported per hour in each direction. A total of 150 panoramic gondolas will serve the route. ce/hs
